• Cutting Board Care

Cutting boards should be washed with warm, soapy water after use. Washing should be done by hand. Do not submerge the cutting board in water, soak the cutting board, or put the cutting board in the dishwasher. Immediately dry the cutting board after washing.

From time to time, it will be necessary to oil or condition your cutting board. Apply food-safe mineral oil or cutting board conditioner by hand to your dry cutting board. Rub the oil in with the grain and allow it to soak in for at least 30 minutes (the longer the better). After letting the oil or conditioner soak in, wipe off any excess with a paper towel. After conditioning, your cutting board may “sweat” some of the oil back out. This can be wiped off with a paper towel.

Only use products with food safe mineral oil, vegetable oil and other cooking oils should not be used on cutting boards. Howards Butcher Block Conditioner is a great product to keep your cutting board looking new.

  • Charcuterie Board Care

While our charcuterie boards are generally made out of the same food-safe woods as our cutting boards, they are not designed for cutting and will wear more quickly if used for cutting. If you plan on cutting on your charcuterie board, please confirm the wood species before doing so.

Maintenance of charcuterie boards is the same as cutting boards. They should be washed by hand with warm, soapy water after contact with food. Do not submerge the board, soak it in water, or put in the dishwasher. Dry immediately after washing.

From time to time, it will be necessary to oil or condition your charcuterie board. Apply food-safe mineral oil or cutting board conditioner by hand to your dry charcuterie board. Apply with the grain to both sides and prop the board up off the counter to allow the oil to soak in. After at least 30 minutes (the longer the better), wipe off any excess oil with a paper towel. After conditioning, your charcuterie board may “sweat” some of the oil back out. This can be wiped off with a paper towel. Leave the board propped up during this, preferably with a towel underneath, or hanging.

Only use products with food safe mineral oil. Vegetable oil and other cooking oils should not be used on charcuterie boards. Howards Butcher Block Conditioner is a great product to keep your charcuterie board looking like new.

  • Lazy Susan Care

Maintenance of your lazy susan will depend on if it is finished with mineral oil or another product as well as the types of woods used. Do not cut directly on your lazy susan and verify the type of oil used to finish your lazy susan before use.

If your lazy susan is finished with a food safe mineral oil, maintenance will be similar to a cutting board. Wash by hand with warm, soapy water after contact with food. Dry immediately after washing and be sure not to get the hardware wet. Do not submerge, soak in water, or put in the dishwasher. Apply food safe mineral oil or cutting board conditioner as necessary, applying with the grain and allowing at least 30 minutes to soak in before wiping the excess off with a paper towel. If your lazy susan is not coming into direct contact with food and is not being washed frequently, this step will also be infrequent.

If your lazy susan is finished with anything other than mineral oil, do not apply additional oil to your lazy susan.
